Recruiting Future Feast #34

Recruiting Future Feast

Greetings from Edinburgh

Welcome to the weekly edition of Recruiting Future Feast, the newsletter from The Recruiting Future Podcast.

A Moment Of Reflection

This is the first newsletter I've sent this year, which is a surprising approach to take to a weekly newsletter. So what's been going on?

2025 is a special year for Recruiting Future, and a triple whammy of landmarks is coming up. The podcast celebrates its 10th birthday in March, will shortly hit 700 episodes, and will also cross 3 million downloads. This seemed like a good time to stop and reflect, which is precisely what I've been doing.

I'm not going to radically change a winning formula, but I've realized that I can make some small changes to help make the podcast even better and give you even more value in return for your time spent listening to it. I'm building out a content framework for 2025 that will make the podcast a weekly must-listen. Part of this process is also revamping the newsletter, redesigning the website, and creating more resources to help TA teams have an impact in these rapidly challenging times.

Plans are now well underway, and I'll share all the details in March!

The Alder Hour

If you've not watched it yet, The Alder is Hour is the weekly LinkedIn live event I'm hosting in partnership with Purple Acorn. It's a mix of news, opinions, and discussion that runs every Monday at noon West Coast, 3pm East Coast, and 8pm UK time.

It's the 10th episode today, and we will be discusing CEOs making misleading statements about AI, Skills-Based Hiring, the emerging trend for "Hush Trips," whether Neurodivergent people should disclose themselves at work, and strategic onboarding.

January Round Up

The January Round Up Episode is now live.

January featured a lineup of highly experienced practitioners and the return of an industry legend, all trying to make sense of the crazy world we now live in. We covered employer branding, the end of traditional HR, strategic budgeting for TA leaders, AI's impact on recruiting, the evolution of careers sites, and skills-based hiring.

The one theme running through most of the interviews was how TA can create more value for the business and prove it. I suspect there will be a significant focus on TA's impact this year, hence the changes I'm making to the podcast.

Every episode is a winner in this selection, but if I had to pick just one as a must-listen, it would have to be Episode 670 with the return of Jeff Taylor, the founder of Monster.com, who points out that our mental models around recruiting haven't changed in a 100 years and how incredibly dangerous this is in the face of a transformative force like AI.

Latest Episodes

There are five new Recruiting Future episodes live already in February. Here are two you should definitely listen to

In Episode 678, Plum CEO Caitlin McGregor discusses durable skills and their importance in skills-based hiring. Caitlin has an incredible vision for the future of assessment and selection. It's a vision backed up by some pretty hefty science. A must-listen.

Something a bit different in Episode 674, where I talk about the lessons corporate talent teams can learn from elite sport with Sports Vision Ophthalmologist Dr Daniel Laby. Dan works with elite athletes like Trent Alexander-Arnold and top baseball teams, including the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox, and has some fascinating insights into attributes and skills.

Shout Up To The Sponsors

A big thank you to iCIMS, Plum, Paradox, and Workable for sponsoring the show during February

Recruiting Future Feast will be back next week; in the meantime, make sure you don't miss out on the latest podcast episodes by following Recruiting Future on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Many Thanks

Matt Alder
