Recruiting Future Feast - Issue #32

Recruiting Future Feast

Greetings from Edinburgh

Welcome to the weekly edition of Recruiting Future Feast, the newsletter from The Recruiting Future Podcast.

Nobody Cares About AI

video preview

I got the link to Fiverr’s amusing short musical about AI from Tom Goodwin’s excellent newsletter.

It sums up where we are in Talent Acquisition at the moment. Nobody cares about AI, but we care very much about what it makes possible now and in the future. I think it’s time to change the narrative around a bit and stop treating AI as a “thing” but instead focus on the transformation of hiring that it is helping to facilitate.

From a vendor perspective, this means moving away from the “we’ve got AI” sales pitch” to more focus on use cases, outcomes, and possibilities. From a practitioner’s perspective, it means appropriately contextualizing AI in the context of TA and Hiring transformation, focusing more on the future vision.

Let’s make the conversation more strategic and start driving towards the future.

The Alder Hour

video preview

I recently dropped into The HR Morning Show to make an important announcement (click the image above to watch the video clip)

I'm delighted to be partnering with the fantastic team at Purple Acorn on a new weekly streaming show called "The Alder Hour" alongside co-hosts Rhona Pierce and Jocelyn King.

The show will stream through our LinkedIn profiles and feature guest interviews and discussions around the big TA and HR issues of the moment.

I'm really excited about this and looking forward to some great live discussions!

We will stream live weekly on Mondays at 12pm PT, 3pm ET, and 8pm UK time. The show launches on Monday, December 9th.

If you fancy being a guest, just hit reply and let me know.

Latest Episodes

Lots of fascinating conversations on the podcast recently, and here are two that really stand out.

Asking great questions has always been part of recruiting. As we move forward to greater automation, the value of understanding how to craft powerful questions will become even more critical in designing experiences and increasing the quality of human connection in the recruiting process.

In Episode 654, I interviewed Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Topaz Adizes. Having conducted over 1,200 filmed conversations exploring human connection, Topaz has gained profound insights into what makes questions transformative.

In our discussion, he shares what his work has taught him about crafting questions that break down barriers and foster authentic dialogue—lessons that can help us all engage more meaningfully in the workplace and beyond.

In Ep 656, Lyndsey Taylor from Brooks Automation discusses the unique opportunity TA has to reposition itself as a strategic function with insights to shape the future of the business. We discuss the TA's role in strategic workforce planning, enhancing the candidate experience, and influencing business outcomes.

Sponsors

A big thank you to SmartRecruiters, Plum, Paradox, Popp AI, and Willo for sponsoring the show during November.

Sponsorship slots for 2025 are already booked until April, so now would be a great time to get in contact if you are interested in sponsoring the show next year.

Recruiting Future Feast will be back next week; in the meantime, follow Recruiting Future on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts to stay updated with the latest episodes.

Thanks for reading this newsletter!
